Beta Titanium Wire – Introduction
Beta titanium wire is a metastable beta-phase titanium alloy wire. Its core advantages include a low elastic modulus, high elastic recovery, and excellent cold formability. It is widely used for eyewear temples, frame wires, and precision fasteners.
Material Definition
Beta titanium is not pure titanium. It is a metastable beta-phase titanium alloy formed by adding beta-stabilizing elements such as vanadium, aluminum, molybdenum, and chromium to a titanium matrix. It features a body-centered cubic (BCC) crystal structure, typically contains over 70% titanium, and is nickel-free.
Key Characteristics
High Elasticity and Memory: With an elastic modulus of approximately 80 GPa and a recovery rate exceeding 95%, temples can automatically rebound after large-angle bending and withstand over 5,000 bending cycles without performance degradation.
Strength and Processability: In the solution-treated condition, it has lower hardness and good ductility, making it easy to form into complex shapes. After aging treatment, its strength increases significantly, with the tensile strength of some grades exceeding 1100 MPa.
Corrosion Resistance and Biocompatibility: It resists corrosion from the atmosphere, sweat, and most media. Being nickel-free and hypoallergenic, it is suitable for prolonged skin contact.
Lightweight: With a density of approximately 4.8–5.2 g/cm³, it is slightly higher than pure titanium (4.51 g/cm³) but still considered a lightweight metal.
Non-magnetic: It exhibits no magnetism under normal conditions.
